WEBSITE PROJECT BRIEF
Prepare a better website development brief.
A clear brief saves time and avoids cost surprises. Settle these points before you ask for quotations.
Purpose and audience
- What should the website achieve, and for whom?
- What should a visitor do next: call, enquire, buy or download?
Structure and content
- List the pages you need and who will write, supply and approve content, with dates.
- Gather logos, brand colours and approved images.
Features and integrations
- Enquiry forms, WhatsApp, maps, payments, booking or CRM connections.
- Decide who receives enquiries and how quickly they will be answered.
Quality
- Accessibility, mobile use and page speed expectations.
- Basic search optimisation: page titles, descriptions and redirects from old addresses if you are replacing a site.
Ownership and running
- Make sure the domain and admin accounts are registered in your organisation’s name.
- Agree hosting, backups, updates and who maintains the site after launch.
Launch
- Define acceptance criteria and a testing checklist before go-live.
Questions to ask before you decide
- What is included in the price, and what is extra?
- Who owns the domain, hosting account and source files?
- What support and backups follow launch?
- How will old pages be redirected?
